Sustainable & Organic Materials

Sustainable & Organic Materials: In the new year we are doing away with plastic as much as possible and leaning towards more glass and large pendants. This can mean anything from hardware, light fixtures, or even furniture framework! The future is going towards greener designs in the sense of being eco-friendly. So when designing your home, look for sustainable and organic materials (Reclaimed wood, bio-glass, recycled metal, latex mattresses, and jute). Choose paints with “non-toxic”, “low-biocide”, or “milk” tags.

Nature Inspired

Nature Inspired: Bringing the outdoors inside with greenery (lots of plants), natural wood, and warm neutrals. I think with everyone having to stay home from last year's quarantine we are looking for ways to make our home feel like a sanctuary. Some can create home gardens, others can create a look that will incorporate neutrals and reclaimed wood pieces!

Zen Living

Zen living: Our home should always feel zen, no wonder it's a trend! Making the aesthetic calming and organic. Bring in floating surfaces, light wood finishes, clean lines.

Round Edges

Round edges: Furniture pieces with softer edges will give a more romantic feel to a room and contrast well with other angled objects in the space like art or funky light fixtures. These rounded edges could mean rounded chairs, rolled arms, round tables, round fixtures, the list goes on, but make sure to not have everything with a round edge. Add in pieces that will compliment those edges by doing a rounded sofa with a squared coffee table or side table for example!

Multifunctional Spaces

Multifunctional Spaces: Our homes have turned into a space to relax, work, and even in some cases turned into a gym! The pandemic has given us a culture shock, and made our homes in need of spaces that are multi-purposeful! So we will see more rooms that are both a living area as well as a work area that can be designed aesthetically with some shelving units (think of studio apartments)! This also means a more of a demand for home office spaces!

Velvet

Velvet: I can be guilty and say I'm so excited this is a trend again! Velvet fabric coming back with pillows, sofas, accent chairs, and more! Not only is it pretty to look at, it's soft to touch and comes in many different colors. There are even some brands that are performance fabric, so you don't have to worry if you accidentally spill wine on your velvet sofa during Bachelor Monday, or if your kids get a little messy!

Color Trends

Color Trends: Making our homes feel light and comfy by adding these trending colors to make your space feel more like home. Neutrals- white walls light floors. Terra Cottas, yellows, warm neutrals. Contrasting accents. Colored trims and doors. Shades of Green!

Retro

Retro: retro styles will be making their way back into 2022 in furniture and some colors. People are wanting their homes to feel warm and cozy. This is where we'll also see those rounded edges again!

Minimalism

Minimalism: Minimal decoration and furniture use, making room for air and free space.

Home Office

Home Office: We all know that working from home has either been a challenge or a treat with the pandemic. So in 2022, everyone is looking to have a designated home office space that will make working from home rewarding and functional. People want a room that can take them away from anything distracting yet still be a creative and motivating environment to get the job done, so not only will it just be a room with a desk and chair, but we are going to see some designers have real fun with creating home offices to make their clients not want to have to go back to work in person!
